A short guide to making your video responses feel natural, clear, and genuinely useful to the people reviewing them.
Video responses are one of the most powerful tools on your It's Me profile. They give employers a sense of how you communicate, how you carry yourself, and how you think on your feet, all before a single interview is scheduled. But that only works if your videos are clear, natural, and genuinely useful.
The first thing to get right is your setup. You do not need professional equipment. A quiet room, decent lighting in front of you (not behind), and a camera at eye level are enough. If your face is well lit and the background is not distracting, you are already ahead of most people.
Next, keep it short. A video response is not a monologue. Aim for 30 to 90 seconds depending on the question. The goal is to answer clearly and stop, not to fill time. Employers review many profiles, and a focused, confident answer stands out more than a long, rambling one.
Before you hit record, take a few seconds to think about what you want to say. You do not need a script, but having a rough structure in your head helps. Start with your main point, give one supporting detail, and wrap up. If you stumble, it is fine to re-record. Nobody sees the outtakes.
Finally, be yourself. It sounds obvious, but many people put on a stiff, formal persona on camera that they would never use in a real conversation. Employers are watching to get a sense of the real you. Speak the way you would in an interview, not the way you think you should sound on a video.
A good video response does not need to be perfect. It needs to be clear, honest, and human. Get those three things right, and your profile will stand out for the right reasons.
